Application Guidelines

Ben’s Fund grants provide financial assistance to children and young adults with autism in Washington State. Families can apply for up to $1,000 per year, per child to support the needs of their child or young adult.  Submitting an application does not guarantee an award. All requests are reviewed by the  Committee and may be approved or denied in accordance with current program guidelines. Ben’s Fund purchases all approved items and services directly and sends them to awardees.  No funds are given directly to families.

Eligibility

  • Ages 0–25
  • Washington resident 
  • Have a documented autism diagnosis
  • Income at or below 400% of the current federal poverty level
  • Requests must be a medical necessity for treating autism
  • ·All required documents must be submitted
  • Must not have received a grant within one year (365 days). Please see you award letter for your Anniversary Date. 

Requirements 

To apply, you must upload all required documents with your application. Please check our website for the full list. Incomplete applications will not be accepted and will be denied.

We prefer PDF files, but if you upload a JPEG, make sure the picture is clear, cropped, and has nothing in the background. If it does not meet these requirements, it may not be accepted.

Required Documents include:

  • Family Story
  • Autism Diagnosis
  • 2025 IRS-Filed Tax Return or Supplemental Security Income Award Letter dated within 90 days
  • Additional Income including but not limited to: Child Support, Additional household members ( 1040's, Alimony, Social Security, Pensions, etc.
  • Referral Letter for all items
  • Invoice(s) or price quotes
  • Ben’s Fund may request additional documentation to verify eligibility. 

Application Periods

  • Opens Jan 5, Apr 1, Jul 6, Oct 1
  • Closes when we reach the maximum number of grants for that quarter

Who Can Apply

Families must submit the application themselves, or young adults. Service providers may not apply on behalf of the families or create Submittable accounts for clients. 

What You Can Request 

Therapeutic equipment, therapy, services, assistive technology, camps, and security equipment. Focus on fewer, meaningful items that will make the biggest impact.

Review Timeline 

We aim to review completed applications and notify families of decisions within 90 days; however, review times may vary and could be longer depending on application volume.

Tips on using Submittable:

  • You can save a draft of your work if you would like to finish filling out the form at a later date. There is an autosave feature, but you can also manually save your draft by clicking the button at the bottom of the form.
  • If you do not submit your application before the quarter closes, you may resume it in the following quarter within the same calendar year.
  • If you submit an incomplete application and it is denied, you will need to submit a new application in the next quarter.
  • We will follow up with you about your submission by email. Please be sure to safelist notification emails from Submittable and check the email you used to sign up for your Submittable Account regularly.
